Bambara Blues has been shown to the communities in and around Kayes, the small city in Mali where the documentary was shot.
Many people came to see this film about the traditional singer Ami Diarra, who makes it her mission to educate the community on the dangers of HIV/AIDS. With more than half of the communities in attendance, including both children and the elderly, the film was able to address the urgency of the AIDS epidemic in this region. The goldmines near Kayes attract a continuous flow of immigrants, some of whom work in the sex industry. After the screening, there were lively discussions about AIDS, the use of condoms, and the possible role of traditional singers in educating the people on the dangers of the disease.
